So I got to take Fred out this past weekend. Wow have those D weapons been nerfed. I came to an interesting rules conundrum while playing.
D Weapon rolls 2-5 which is D3 wounds portion of the chart.
Do you
A. Roll one saving throw for each casualty and then apply D3 wounds if the saving throw is failed
B. Roll the D3 and then have to make D3 saves for that model.
C. Roll a bunch of D3's and count them up. Roll the saves for all of D3s at once but only ever killing the total amount hit.
15 total hit. 40 wounds from D3s max that can be killed is 15 models.

Also this is just a huge time sink during a timed turn.

B. Each model takes D3 wounds individually. The rules are pretty clearly described in the rulebook. Since most D weapons are AP1 or AP2 the only saves are cover or invuln. Doesn't take as long as you think.

The annoying thing is when you roll a 1 on the table and your huge doom gun of death shoots confetti and the target laughs.

D weapons cause hits that wound automatically and causes the target to lose D3 wounds (or D6 + 6). You make one saving throw and wounds lost do not spill over. In most cases of T5 and below, this won't matter anyway.

Jack, you can make that complaint about every high S weapon or creature. 'I roll 1 to wound with my Lascannon and the guardsman walks away unscathed.'
