In Magic: The Gathering, you play the role of a duelist—a powerful wizard who fights other duelists for glory, knowledge, and conquest. Your deck of cards represents all the weapons in your arsenal. It contains the spells you know and the creatures you can summon to fight for you.

Alternate Universes is a Wizards of the Coast Premier Store. We also have a large selection of Magic: The Gathering singles. If you don’t know how to play Magic: The Gathering and want to learn, Alternate Universes hosts FREE Magic: The Gathering demos. We are always interested in buying or trading for your Magic: The Gathering collection!

Don’t miss the Helvault Tournaments! Preregister now!

The Magic: the Gathering Avacyn Restored prerelease tournaments will be held Saturday, April 28th & 29th at all three AU stores.  All three stores will be holding two HELVAULT TOURNAMENTS in addition to their regularly scheduled events. The Helvault event is like a regular prerelease tournament, including the sealed-deck tournament, but with the addition of a Helvault. This mysterious container will be unsealed in stages throughout the event, as players earn certain achievements in the tournament, revealing prizes for all participants. The exact contents of the Helvault are unknown; it’s a surprise for everyone!

Format for all event tournaments is sealed deck except for the Sealed 2-Headed Giant Tournament at Blue Bell.  Entry fee is $30.00.  Preregistration for Helvault tournaments is highly recommended as these events are limted to 54 players.   All preregistrations must be paid.

Each player receives a foil Moonsliver Spear for participating in the prerelease (while supplies last).  As usual, pack prizes will also be awarded based on the number of wins.

3rd & 4th: $75 store credit

5th – 8th: $35.00 store credit (awarded if 25 players register)

Our goal is run a tournament of 75+ players. To encourage that, in addition to byes normally given away for Grand Prix Trials, we are going to be giving away the following prizes should we get 75 or more players:

3rd & 4th Place: 1 Booster Box of Dark Ascension

MTG Game Day Tournaments

February 24th, 2012

Alternate Universes will be holding Magic: the Gathering Game Day on Saturday, February 25th at the Holmes and Wilmington  stores. These are standard format tournaments with a $5.00 entry. The winner is crowned store champion for the Dark Ascension set.

All participants receive an exclusive Strangleroot Geist card (while supplies last). The Top 8 players also each receive an exclusive Zombie Apocalypse extended-art prize card (while supplies last). These cards are awarded to the Top 8 players even if the tournament cuts only to the Top 4. In addition, the first-place finisher at Dark Ascension Game Day will receive an exclusive playmat. 

The schedule for the tournaments is as follows:

Holmes: Saturday February 25th at 6:00PM

Wilmington: Saturday, February 25 at 4:00PM

Registration begins one hour before the start time.

Magic: the Gathering Dark Ascension Prerelease Tournament Schedule

Don’t miss the Midnight Prerelease Tournaments!

The Magic: the Gathering Dark Ascension prerelease tournaments will be held Saturday, January 28th at all three AU stores and on Sunday, January 29th at the Holmes store. For this event all three stores will be holding MIDNIGHT PRERELEASE TOURNMENTS in addition to their regularly scheduled events. Format for all event tournaments is sealed deck except for the a Sealed 2-Headed Giant Tournament at Blue Bell. Entry fee is $30.00 at the door or $25.00 if preregistered by Thursday, January 26th. (All preregistrations must be paid).

As usual, pack prizes will also be awarded based on the number of wins.

MTG Delaware State Championship at AU Wilmington, Saturday, October 15th

Alternate Universes, Wilmington will be hosting the Magic: the Gathering Delaware State Championship Tournament on Saturday, October 15th.  Registration opens at 9AM with play to begin at 10AM.   Here are the details:

$25 Entry Fee
Held in all 50 states & Puerto Rico
Format: Standard (including Innistrad) 

Prizes:

  • A gorgeous unique Top 8 Playmat, done by Kekai Kotaki. Only 500 of these will ever exist.
  • Each State/Provincial Champion receives a championship plaque
  • Champions receive a Custom DCI Card done by Kekai Kotaki
  • Champions Receive FREE entry into all Constructed Premier Events for a Year!
  • Booster packs to top players based on attendance

There is no residence requirement this year.  You can play in any state.  You can play in Delaware!

Decklists are required.
